Kevin Tong’s Mechanical Dreams

Sometimes we stay up late, roll out of bed and stumble into our day jobs with screenprinting ink all over our hands, feeling somewhat accomplished. And when we sit down at our desks and login to Facebook at 9am, Kevin Tong is just going to bed. His illustrations are crazy amazing, he does all his own printing (by hand, without fancy machines), and ships everything himself, too. And on top of that, literally in the middle of the night, he makes time for process posts and videos – always with music that I love.

Kevin has a solo show at Phone Booth Gallery right now called Mechanical Dreams, and he put that promotional video together himself. There are six new prints available from the show. My faves:

You can see the rest on Phone Booth Gallery’s website. If you screenprint your own designs, you should definitely take a look at Kevin’s blog at tragicsunshine.com, because he documents his process so meticulously. (In fact, this post was supposed to go up yesterday, but I got lost in the archives.) I really don’t know how he does it all, but his work ethic, beautiful posters and packing tape with his name on it gives Dennis and I something to aspire to.
