Tom Thewes Solo at 323 East 10/9/10

I remember when I first saw the work of Tom Thewes hanging on the walls of CPop Gallery.
My first two thoughts were a) Is this a digital work? and b) If not, how did he do it? Tom’s pieces are extensively layered airbrush and spray paint pieces that have incredible depth and extremely clean lines. Tom opens his first solo show in nine years at Royal Oak’s 323 East this Saturday, October 9th at 6:00pm.

The show runs through November 4th and any unsold pieces will be on display at this years Dirty Show.

Recap: Ron Zakrin @ 323 East

We were in Chicago this weekend for our anniversary (can’t believe it’s been a whole year!) and we missed a lot here in Detroit. Fortunately, Detroit painter John Azoni was at 323 East for Ron Zakrin‘s opening. Thanks very much to John for taking these pictures for us.

Clusterf*<k is going to be up at 323 East until October 7th, so there’s still time to check it out. There’s more pics from the opening behind the cut. (Some are slightly NSFW.) Thanks again to John for sending these in.

There’s Inventions Everywhere!!! @ 323 East

Due to the Craft Revival this past weekend we totally dropped the ball on Mark Heggie‘s show that opened on Saturday at 323 East. While I have yet to see the work in person, thanks to Detroit Exposure I was able to see much of the work online, and it looked fantastic. Below are a few of the pics from the show, be sure to visit 323 East’s Facebook page to see dozens more from opening night.

Highlights From Glass, Cinder + Thorns

Glass, Cinder + Thorns was one of the best art shows I’ve ever seen in Detroit. April Segedi did an amazing job curating it. Some of our favorites:
