Day of the Dead at Starkweather Arts Center, Romeo, MI, Oct. 7th, 2011

We are part of a huge group show happening at Starkweather Arts Center in Romeo, MI on October 7th. Curated by the lovely Heather Hansma, the pieces, as the title may suggest, revolves around the theme of Dia de los Muertos.

We wanted the focus of the print to be the traditional Day of the Dead skull, but with a somewhat photorealistic spin. The final print measures 16 x 20″ and is three colors on French Speckletone Madero Beach paper.

Stukenborg

Between a busy weekend of house painting and printing Christina and I went to Astro Coffee and Mudgies in Corktown in Detroit to grab coffee and lunch. At each of these placed we saw awesome letterpress prints advertising events around Detroit. After doing some digging we discovered that the prints were produced by Stukenborg, aka Bryan Christopher Baker. Bryan is a recent transplant from New York who now resides in Corktown. His current project is creating beautiful patterned prints using hundreds of actual dice.

Meth Motel Print for Meth and Hot Dogs 2 at Lift Detroit

We wanted to participate in the upcoming Meth and Hotdogs 2 show at Lift Designer Toys & Gallery in Royal Oak, curated by Kill Taupe. Kill Taupe suggested that we do a collaboration of sorts. So he tasked us with creating a print using his Meth and Hotdogs Character. We decided to push ourselves a bit and try to make our first ever four color process print.

Olly Moss

Olly Moss‘ work is simple, yet genius. This is the kind of designer that I think most people strive to be. One that creates attractive, clean work that gets the point across. Be sure to check out his Flickr photostream to see more of his work.

Joshua Petker

Joshua Petker began as a street artist in college, but after a trip to Italy he decided to pursue a more traditional path. His female portraits have evolved a lot over the last few years (not that his earlier works aren’t gorgeous, too.) He’s also released some beautiful giclées hand embellished with glitter.
