John Dunivant

I can’t believe we’ve been posting on Michigan artists for almost three years and have yet to post on the amazing work of John Dunivant. Most Detroiters know John as the head of Theatre Bizarre, a yearly circus themed party formerly held at the abandoned Michigan Fair Grounds, and now taking place at the Masonic Temple. John, also one of the 2011 Kresge Art Fellowship winers, designed and painted the stages, sets, and signage for Theatre Bizarre.

Happy Serum opens on June 3 at Starkweather Arts Center

Our friends Kill Taupe, Heather Hansma, and Crystal Mielcarek have a show opening at Starkweather Arts Center in Romeo, Michigan. Entitled “Happy Serum”, the show focuses on happiness,(though perhaps taking a tongue in cheek approach to the subject) something that the artists feel that Metro area seems to be lacking . The show opens on June 3rd and runs through the 25th.

Meth Motel Print for Meth and Hot Dogs 2 at Lift Detroit

We wanted to participate in the upcoming Meth and Hotdogs 2 show at Lift Designer Toys & Gallery in Royal Oak, curated by Kill Taupe. Kill Taupe suggested that we do a collaboration of sorts. So he tasked us with creating a print using his Meth and Hotdogs Character. We decided to push ourselves a bit and try to make our first ever four color process print.

Rust Belt to Artist Belt III: My Take as a Creative

The ever present optimism of Detroiters was out in full force at this weeks Rust Belt to Artist Belt Conference. I was able to attend both Wednesday and Thursday mornings at the College forCreative Studies Alfred A. Taubman Center. It was the first time I was able to see the center, and it is amazing. The event was extremely well organized and offered a diverse group of speakers from many parts of the creative community.
