Jason Limon: “Into the Mystic” at G1988 SF

Jason Limon is going to be part of a group show at Gallery 1988 SF entitled “Into the Mystic”. It opens tomorrow and runs through December 5th. Here are a few of my favorites. I especially love the ornate frames that he chose and the worn texture he created in this first piece.

The rest of his paintings for “Into the Mystic” can be seen on Jason Limon’s Flickr. There, you’ll also find some interesting stories that explain the creatures he’s made up. (They harvest human female heads in order to reproduce. Luckily for me, they only like brunettes with green eyes.)

By the way, it’s worth noting that I found Jason’s paintings on Twitter! If you’d like to follow us, we’re @perfectlaughtr.

Luke Chueh‘s newest print, Goya, is now available at Corey Helford Gallery. The painting is Luke’s take on the original by Francisco Goya, Saturn Devouring His Son.

Also, a little more information about the Southpaw print that we had previously talked about. Apparently, Gallery 1988 will be releasing prints based on Luke’s Southpaw series. A set of all five measuring 9″ x 12″ apiece, and a single prints that are 12″ x 16″. As of there is no information on pricing. It is presumed that these prints will be released by Gallery 1988 in conjunction with Luke’s Inferno show on 9/9/09. Being left handed myself, I cannot wait for these prints to come out.

And finally… (not made by us, but I am a fan)

New Luke Chueh Print?

Gallery 1988 just posted this photo on their blog.

While this is purely speculation, these may be productions shots for an upcoming print to be released by Gallery 1988 of the very early piece by Luke Chueh entitled Southpaw.

Luke’s upcoming solo show is entitled “Inferno” which opens at Gallery 1988 on 9/9/09. One could assume that this print will be released to correspond with the show. Hopefully, for those of us who cannot make the show, this print will be released online as well as at the show. We will post more information as it comes available.

Detroit Artists in G1988′s Crazy 4 Cult 3D

Gallery 1988 just opened the third edition of their renowned Crazy 4 Cult show, which features artwork inspired by cult movies. Two Detroit artists have their work featured, Audrey Pongracz and Lauren Moyer. Both of them have been so encouraging and supportive of Perfect Laughter, and it’s awesome that they’re representing Detroit in this much loved event.

Lauren Moyer

I was so happy to get an email out of the blue from Lauren Moyer, who sent me a ton of links to Detroit artists that she knows.  Not only does she know about a million amazing people, but her paintings have been at Gallery 1988.  To Dennis and I, this makes her kind of a big deal.  Before we booked our San Francisco hotel for our honeymoon, we actually Google mapped G1988 in relation to all the hotels we were considering. What made us nerd out even more is that one of the G1988 shows she was in was curated by Luke Chueh.  I don’t think I realized how much I loved Luke Chueh’s art until I very enthusiastically tried explaining to a 10-year-old why we had a picture of a bear drinking poison with one head and throwing up with another. He was confused and a little frightened, and I don’t think my explanation helped.

Lauren has a solo show coming up in the Detroit area in September.  It’ll be at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center.  She’s spending her whole summer in Alaska to prepare for it.  I can’t wait to see what comes out of that trip as her artwork often has nature as a focal point.  In the mean time, you can check out her paintings, screenprints and sketches below and at http://lauren-moyer.deviantart.com/.
