Third Alert Designs

I’m not sure how Third Alert Designs has slipped under the radar. Hank Hanewinkle’s graphic design company out of Tulsa has produced some great posters for pretty big name acts. I really love the stark, vintage looking photography that he employs in his designs.

I don’t think Third Alert is going to be an unknown name for long, so you might want to raid the shop while it’s still stocked up.

The Comet Substance

Ronny Hunger of Switzerland is putting out some great posters under the name The Comet Substance. I love the layering of vintage images, and there’s just the right amount of dirty grit running through his designs.

He also designed some posters for an ice cream brand. I have no idea what Fraise Erdbeer is, but I bet it’s delicious.

Nerl Says Design

John Knoerl just graduated from Grand Valley and has been churning out some very impressive stuff. Under the name Nerl Says Design, John has released posters for local bands like The Hard Lessons as well as national acts such as Passion Pit and Minus the Bear.

Look how neat he is! I’d have ink all over the walls and carpeting in about five seconds. For more process shots, and of course, more posters, visit John’s blog at nerlsaysdesign.wordpress.com.

Calamity Industries

Spencer Charles just graduated from the University of Utah and he’s designing under the name Calamity Industries. If his first few posters and prints are any indication, he’s going to do big things. I want to see more.

Someone get this man a drying rack for Christmas. Spencer’s entire portfolio is at calamityind.com.

Bison Bookbinding & Letterpress

Bison Bookbinding and Letterpress opened its doors in 2004 in Bellingham, Washington. Operated by Carley James and her husband, Kevin, Bison designs and produces everything from business cards and gig posters to packaging. Their philosophy is to maintain as small as an eco footprint as possible. Bison uses vegetable based ink, recycled or handmade paper, and uses printing plates that can be easily recycled. The pair goes as far as to make their own tree free paper in their own studio. Aside from doing custom design work for clients they also sell handmade papergoods in their Etsy shop.
