Madpixel

We had the pleasure of meeting and briefly talking with Madpixel at this years Detroit Urban Craft Fair. Super nice guy. Based out of Louisville, KY, and run by Ronald C. Jasin, Madpixel, in addition to making beautiful hand pulled art prints and gigposters, offers branding, and web design. Recently Madpixel’s work was featured in the book Gigposters Volume 2. Below are a few of our favorites, but be sure to visit his site for much much more.

Interview: John Bailey

I first met John Bailey up in Grand Rapids, where I found out he was the artist behind all the graphics for the band Stepdad. Even after doing some research for this interview, that was still all I could find out about him. He has no About page, no “social media presence” for self-promotion, just a Tumblr of his work that fills up at a breakneck pace. It’s strange these days, it seems, to find an artist who spends 110% of their time just creating. And so the interview started with a pretty basic question: “tell me about yourself…”

Could you give me a quick introduction or bio? How did you get started as an artist?

John Bailey, house sloth, YouTube addict…artist. If I were to describe my work to someone who had never seen it…I guess I’d say its what you would see if someone put an SNES in a microwave, while NBA Jam is playing.

Reclaimed Preview: Angela Duncan

Angela Duncan is one of our favorite hand letterers and illustrators. While she was visiting her Michigan hometown from LA, she came across an old painting at her mom’s house. Soon, the peaceful fall scenery was overrun by giant bunnies with toothy grins. Every time I look at this piece, I seem to find a new bunny hiding someplace.

Reclaimed opens Friday, October 21, 6-10 pm at Rivers Edge Gallery and runs through November 18.

Michael Chabot

We had the pleasure of meeting Michael Chabot at this weekends DIY Street Fair in Ferndale. Michael, a graduate of College for Creative Studies creates intricately illustrated drawing and prints. I especially like his illustration on fiberglass resin.
