Wedding album Design by Ross Clodfelter and Shane Cranford

Designer Ross Clodfelter, half of Device Print Shop (previously covered here) and Shane Cranford, sent over this unique and beautifully designed wedding album that he did for F5 Photography. Not wanting to stay with the traditional, templated albums that are oh so common, Ross set out to do something a bit different, and the results are stunning. They designed a hardboard case that was laser etched to look like naturally aged wood. Then a label was designed, letterpress printed and adhered to the cover. The spreads were laid out with graphics, copy and textural photos using gloss varnishes and metallic screen printing overlays to help set the mood.

Stukenborg

Between a busy weekend of house painting and printing Christina and I went to Astro Coffee and Mudgies in Corktown in Detroit to grab coffee and lunch. At each of these placed we saw awesome letterpress prints advertising events around Detroit. After doing some digging we discovered that the prints were produced by Stukenborg, aka Bryan Christopher Baker. Bryan is a recent transplant from New York who now resides in Corktown. His current project is creating beautiful patterned prints using hundreds of actual dice.

Quail Lane Press

While perusing Etsy this morning I came across the work of Michelle Murdock, aka Quail Lane Press. Michelle, a Tahoe City native, creates prints inspired by her surrounds and love for the outdoors. Her prints are a combination of letterpress type and linoleum cuts.

Pine Street Makery

We had an amazing time this weekend in Indianapolis for the Indieana Handicraft Exchange. The turnout was amazing and the whole event was a pleasure to be a part of. Good art, good music, and good beer were enjoyed by all. We met many talented artists, and throughout the week we will profile our favorites.

Today we bring you Pine Street Makery. Pine Street Makery is Jessica Maloan, a Nashville based printmaker who’s prints and cards are made using linoleum cuts printed on her Kelsey letterpress. Coincidentally, the name of her shop is a tribe to Pine Street in Pontiac, MI, where her grandparents lived.

Device Printshop

Shane Cranford, whom we had previously posted about here, has partnered with Ross Clodfelter to form Device Printshop. Device printshop is a screen printing / letterpress studio in downtown Winston-Salem, NC. They offer printing workshops, one-on-one instruction, and hourly equipment rental. I am so jealous that there isn’t anything available here in Detroit that offers something similar.
