Quail Lane Press

While perusing Etsy this morning I came across the work of Michelle Murdock, aka Quail Lane Press. Michelle, a Tahoe City native, creates prints inspired by her surrounds and love for the outdoors. Her prints are a combination of letterpress type and linoleum cuts.

Pine Street Makery

We had an amazing time this weekend in Indianapolis for the Indieana Handicraft Exchange. The turnout was amazing and the whole event was a pleasure to be a part of. Good art, good music, and good beer were enjoyed by all. We met many talented artists, and throughout the week we will profile our favorites.

Today we bring you Pine Street Makery. Pine Street Makery is Jessica Maloan, a Nashville based printmaker who’s prints and cards are made using linoleum cuts printed on her Kelsey letterpress. Coincidentally, the name of her shop is a tribe to Pine Street in Pontiac, MI, where her grandparents lived.

Alyson Sommerfield

These prints by Michigan’s own Alyson Sommerfield are awesome. Each of these linoleum block prints, measuring 8″ x 10″ are drawn, cut and, pulled by hand.

The Linocuts of Sherrie York

While researching the best way to sort out registration for linoleum block printing I stumbled across the blog of artist Sherrie York. Her blog chronicles the production of her nature themed prints, my favorite being the Intimate Landscapes Series, and is a great resource for all things linocut.

Handmade Detroit has selected a really diverse group of vendors for this year’s Detroit Urban Craft Fair at the Majestic Theater. And judging from their previews on Twitter, even the five HD girls themselves have some brand new products. This event always features really talented artists, and this year is no exception. Here are a few designers, painters, illustrators and printmakers that will be there on Saturday. They’re all really nice, so say hi to them if you see them. 10am – 7pm makes for a long day!
