Alisa Bobzien

We’ve been super busy keeping up with holiday craft shows for the past month and have been completely slacking on our blog. On the upside we’ve had a chance to meet so many talented people, whom we will profile on the site in the upcoming week.

Ann Arbor’s Alisa Bobzien, whose work we absolutely loved at this years Detroit Urban Craft Fair, creates these ornate screen prints.

More of Alisa’s work behind the cut.

Kady Jesko

Kady Jesko is a graphic designer from Detroit who shares our love of printmaking and typography. She’s not even out of school yet, and she already has a couple of typefaces under her belt. There’s lots of good stuff to be found throughout her portfolio.

Day of the Dead Recap

Happy Halloween! Where did the month of October go? We’ve admittedly fallen a bit behind on blogging, and the only thing to do is to catch up, one post at a time. Please keep your submissions coming (email them to heyyouguys [at] perfectlaughter [dot] com).  If you’ve submitted something and haven’t heard back, we apologize. Hang tight, we’re getting there!

This weekend is the last chance to see Day of the Dead at Starkweather Arts Center. The gallery is open Thursday through Saturday.  The show that Heather Hansma curated has a lot of fantastic work in it, and we were happy to be a part of it. The opening featured music by Hand in the Ocean, and performance art by Jayme Ludwig. All of the opening’s hijinks can be seen in this Day of the Dead photo album that Heather put together on Flickr.

As for the artwork, it’s showcased beautifully in this highlight reel that was shot by local cable channel WBRW. Great job, Heather, on a very thoughtfully curated and tirelessly promoted show that all of the artists involved are no doubt very proud of.

Reclaimed Preview: Emi Slade

Wow! That is all I can come up with when trying to describe Emi’s contribution to Reclaimed. The “frame” for this piece is actually the top of a clock that was found in the trash at Eastern Market. The creature inside is hand sculpted and painted and must be seen in person to be full appreciated.

Reclaimed opens this Friday, October 21, 6-10 pm at Rivers Edge Gallery and runs through November 18.

Reclaimed Preview: Kristin Barr

Check out piece by Kristen Barr did for Reclaimed. It must have taken her forever to cut out each page by hand. I also love that you can see the wording of the book behind the piece.
