Happy Serum opens on June 3 at Starkweather Arts Center

Our friends Kill Taupe, Heather Hansma, and Crystal Mielcarek have a show opening at Starkweather Arts Center in Romeo, Michigan. Entitled “Happy Serum”, the show focuses on happiness,(though perhaps taking a tongue in cheek approach to the subject) something that the artists feel that Metro area seems to be lacking . The show opens on June 3rd and runs through the 25th.

Cuddly Rigor Mortis

I think my favorite piece from the Meth and Hot Dogs 2 show was the piece by Cuddly Rigor Mortis‘ (Kristin Tercek) It’s a Trap. I love how she rendered the moss to look so realistic. Her site is full of clever work featuring her characters.

Jason Thielke: “Zero-zero”

On of our favorite artists, Jason Thielke, debuted new work last weekend. His solo show “Zero-zero” opened April 15th at David B. Smith Gallery in Denver. While this batch of paintings still features the sharp, geometric details that he’s known for, he makes you peer through an ethereal haze in order to see them. Choosing to hand draw everything rather than use acrylic transfer or laser cutting has made for a softer, more raw evolution of his work.

New Ryan Weiss / 30 x 30 Art Show

30 x 30 is a fundraiser art show where 30 artists are given 30 canvases and 3 months to complete them.  Here’s the awesome part: If you buy a painting at this show, a hefty portion of the money goes to help kids take lessons at the art center. It’s happening tomorrow, March 26th, from 10am – 2 pm at the Ann Arbor Art Center. (RSVP on Facebook) Our fave Grand Rapids artist and tour guide, Ryan Weiss, cranked out 30 pieces for this show. Here are a few that he sneak previewed:
