Beautiful Angle
posted by dennis
Formed in November, 2002 Tacoma, Washington’s Beautiful Angle puts an interesting twist on the typical poster art that one would see wheatpasted around town. Every poster is printed by graphic designer Lance Kagey and writer Tom Llewellyn. The pair often collaborate with guest designers for some of their monthly releases. Printed on a Challenge proof press in editions of 120, 80 of the prints are posted around Tacoma, while the rest are for sale in their online shop.

This print is my favorite because it was printed on donated maps.
“Bonfire” by Tugboat Printshop
posted by christina
Tugboat Printshop has a new woodcut print. It’s called Bonfire, and it’s making me long for summer, where I can run around a pile of burning palettes like a little heathen.

Bonfire is available for pre-order on Tugboat Printshop’s website. There is an edition of 100 and each print is $150. Behind the cut, you’ll find images of each of the five painstakingly carved blocks that made up this image. In case you missed it, check out our interview with Paul and Valerie that we did a few months back.

This piece was from her recent solo show at Giant Robot, and will only be made available as a print through Tiny Showcase. $250 from the sale of this print will be given to Doctors Without Borders.
Sam Wolfe Connelly

Sam Wolfe Connelly is a 21 year old artist from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He works in several different mediums, but it was his charcoal illustrations that really blew me away. I’ve always associated charcoal with smudgy black and white still lifes (lives?). But Sam draws these dark, terrifying characters that are shrouded even further by the medium’s muted color palette.

Sam’s whole portfolio can be found at samwolfeconnelly.com. He also blogs about his process, and has some prints available for sale.
