Interview: KeeganMeegan

We found out about KeeganMeegan Letterpress & Bindery on our honeymoon in Portland a year and a half ago. After picking up a postcard for an art show at Em Space Book Arts Center, we were lucky enough to find Keegan Wenkman working in his space there. He was very nice and patient with the two of us rubbernecks as we watched him print some posters on a Vandercook.

Keegan and his partner Katy Meegan have been designing and printing together since 2007. The pair has amassed an impressive amount of knowledge and equipment about printmaking and bookmaking. If they can raise the money, (and you can help!) they’re hoping to use their expertise to save an incredibly rare C&P cylinder press bound for scrap. Ever since we first happened upon them, they’ve been a huge inspiration to us, and we’re super excited that they agreed to do an interview.

R. Phillips

Lovely prints by illustrator and photographer, R. Phillips. Hailing from Toronto, she has an Etsy shop called Hocus that’s chock full of drawings of adorable creatures and peaceful nature photos.

Mark Sarmel

Ferndale’s upcoming Rust Belt Market recently debuted their snappy new logo, designed by Detroit’s own Mark Sarmel. Mark’s character based illustrations and paintings were a surprise find in his portfolio (I had expected more commercial art). Love his use of negative space and limited color palettes.

A Couple of Questions for Brainstorm

We love Brainstorm! We met Briana and Jason at Renegade this summer, after spending WAY too long going through their scratch-and-dent pile of screenprinted posters. We were like 1 year olds with our first piece of birthday cake – you start with a taste and the next thing you know, your whole face is in it. Why do we always end up holding all screenprinted matter less than 2 inches from our noses? Hopefully YOU will get to see them this year, as they’re planning to travel from Philly to craft shows farther around the country that they haven’t been to yet. Add on some gallery shows and plenty of new prints, and these guys will have a busy year ahead.

A Couple of Questions for enormouschampion

enormouschampion is a collaboration between Jordan Provost and Jason Wong that results in beautifully designed cards, prints, and other paper goods. Their latest project together is a brand new line of e-greeting cards, which just debuted over at Paperless Post.

In addition to working on enormouschampion, each of them has their own independent endeavor: Jordan is a photographer, and Jason is one of the typographic wizards behind Friends of Type.
