Recap: Four Score at 323East

Right now, 323East is featuring several relatively unknown street artists in a group show called Four Score. Malt, Denial, Peter D’Angelo and fellow blogger Mike Han will have their art on the walls until March 9th. For Dennis and I, the opening was supposed to be the first stop on our Valentines Day date, but we were having so much fun that we missed our dinner reservations completely. Our full photo gallery is after the jump.

Swoon in Detroit

Spotted in Midtown. This piece is from Swoon’s visit to Detroit in 2007, when she was in town for the Allied Media Conference.

The Work of A1one

I really like the layered Arabic calligraphy combined with the stencil work in the pieces of Tehran based artist/ designer A1one. Much more of his work can be seen on his Facebook and Flickr pages.

Beautiful Angle

Formed in November, 2002 Tacoma, Washington’s Beautiful Angle puts an interesting twist on the typical poster art that one would see wheatpasted around town. Every poster is printed by graphic designer Lance Kagey and writer Tom Llewellyn. The pair often collaborate with guest designers for some of their monthly releases. Printed on a Challenge proof press in editions of 120, 80 of the prints are posted around Tacoma, while the rest are for sale in their online shop.

This print is my favorite because it was printed on donated maps.

Primary Detroit @ the Fort St. Gallery, December 12th

232323

Following their unfortunate closure earlier this year CPOP Gallery, partnering with Primary Flight, is back and hosting a show at the new Fort Street Gallery. Titled Primary Detroit, the show will feature artwork from local artists such as Tristan Eaton, Parskid, The Solemn Truth. Joining them will New Zealand’s Askew, Chicago’s Pose, and New York’s Jaes. The show starts at 8:00 am December 12th until 4:00 am the following morning. Also, in 2011 Primary Detroit will beautify Detroit with permanent outdoor murals as well as hold a weekend festival.

Keep your eye on CPOP’s site as well as their twitter for more information.
