Vintage Inspiration
We’ve been experimenting with designs inspired by vintage packaging and typography. Over the last few months we’ve collected images from around the web. Aside from the excellent resource Grain Edit, which profiles both modern, vintage inspired, design well as actual vintage design, The Product Manual Archive, as well as Flickr are great resources. Below are a few of the jewels that we’ve come across.

I love the patina that forms on some of these items over the years, the wear and tear almost become design elements themselves.
More inspiration lies behind the cut.
Found Michigan
We typically don’t post on clothing companies, but I really like the designs and people behind Found Michigan. Found Michigan is a recent startup from two life long Michiganders, Lou Blouin and Emily Bingham, whom had recently moved to Maine, but soon became homesick are returning to Michigan within the next few weeks. The goal of found Michigan is two fold. Firstly, it is an online magazine that explores the culture of Michigan. Secondly, they produce vintage inspired Michigan themed shirts to subsidize the cost of running the magazine. Shirts can be purchased in their Etsy shop.

Detroit Urban Craft Fair Artist Preview: Part 2
We’ve been working super hard around the clock to prepare for the four craft shows that we’re doing this holiday season (see tour dates!). In addition to what you see above, we have much more that we haven’t gotten around to photographing, unless you count some iPhone pics taken in the middle of the night. We’re excited for our work to be shown alongside all the other talented vendors that Handmade Detroit chose this year. Here’s Part 2 of our preview of vendors who focus on art and illustration.
By the way, if you missed Part 1 of the preview, you can find it here.

Wish You Were Here: AIGA Detroit Competition
AIGA Detroit asked us to help spread the word about a postcard design competition called Wish You Were Here. Inspired by vintage postcards of Detroit in its heyday, Michigan designers can submit postcards about local places that they love. The winning entries will be printed and mailed as postcards to AIGA chapters across the country in order to spread the love for Michigan.
All the details about the competition can be found on AIGA Detroit’s website. To learn more about the idea behind the competition, check out the vintage postcards in this video.

OUR LATEST GIGPOSTER
We got to design and print a poster for Darling Imperial's farewell show at the Berkley Front. They let us do whatever we wanted, so we went with vintage lettering and a weathered, faded feel.
