Interview with Tugboat Printshop
Husband and wife team Valerie Lueth and Paul Roden run Tugboat Printshop out of their Pittsburgh home. Despite being in the middle of the crazy holiday craft show season, they kindly took some time to share their process with us. They used their latest print, entitled “Dreamboat”, to explain each step.
“Dreamboat” is the last print (#22) in THE DEEP BLUE SEA Woodcut Series, and it’s available as of right now in their online shop. Behind the cut, you’ll see how they worked together on this print and others they’ve made, including the very impressive “America The Beautiful”.
Celebrate the Print at The Lawrence Street Gallery
This Friday, October 2nd will be the opening for Ferndale’s Lawrence Street Gallery’s latest show: Celebrate the Print. Consisting of work from 40 artists this juried show will focus on, what else, printmaking. The work will be made up of all forms of printmaking, including screen prints, lithography, wood block, reductions, etchings, and aquatint. The show will run through October 30th. For gallery hours and directions check the gallery’s site here.
Block Prints from Cakeasaurus
Cakeasaurus is a printmaker from Ann Arbor, and I fell in love with her Etsy shop. Not only are the prints super cute and funny, but the product descriptions crack me up. Here are a few of my favorites along with quotes from their descriptions.

"What has this little llama done, that he ineffectually hides behind a tree and asks for you to cover for him?"

"His suitcase looks heavy in proportion to his size…But, in most situations, determination is the deciding factor, and this penguin has that in spades."

"The first sketch in the cupcake-as-beloved series. A contented mouse, cradling a cupcake in sleep..."
All Cakeasaurus prints are small editions made using hand cut wood blocks and a trusty wooden spoon (no press). Each of the above and many more are available in the Cakeasaurus Etsy shop.
Live Every Week Like It’s Shark Week
Last week was Shark Week. Do you miss it already? (I don’t, because our DVR is still full of shark-related stuff that Dennis recorded.) Live every week like it’s Shark Week with these prints!

ABOUT PERFECT LAUGHTER
Perfect Laughter is Dennis and Christina Jacobs of Detroit, Michigan. In addition to blogging about artists that we love, we design, screenprint and letterpress paper goods. If you're looking for a graphic designer or illustrator, commissions are always welcome! (read more...)
OUR LATEST GIGPOSTER
We got to design and print a poster for Darling Imperial's farewell show at the Berkley Front. They let us do whatever we wanted, so we went with vintage lettering and a weathered, faded feel.
