Visions of MODOK

The latest Green Brain Comics helmed group show opened Saturday, September 25th. This time the theme was reimagining the oddball Marvel character M.O.D.O.K.

Joe Foo and Heather Hansma (me!) start off the show above the kids' section in the shop.

In interest of full disclosure, I love Green Brain Comics with all my nerdy heart. I do every single art show they put on no matter what. I drive my buns over there to buy my graphic novels instead of at the comic shops closer to me because the owners Dan and Katie are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and definitely the nicest comic shop proprietors I’ve ever met. All this love might make you think I’m biased when I say this, but I’m being perfectly honest when I say that this show was flippin’ fantastic.

M.O.D.O.K. with open arms :: Pedro Delgado

I mean, seriously, look at that! That is sick! That pencil drawing fills me with an excitement to pick up a pencil to make something that awesome, then promptly begin to cry because I don’t draw like that at all, but THEN not care at all because the original drawing is so sweet.

A.I.M. Fails :: Sean Bieri

And here is Mr. Sean Bieri bringing is comic-strip-stylings A-game. I’m still cracking up over MODOKRS.

M.O.D.O.C. Mental Organism Designed Only For Coffee :: Matt Feazell

You’d think after all the time I spend on the internet reading webcomics that I’d be sick of stick figure art by now, but I’m not. Especially not when I see something as fantastic as this.

Modok-Fink! :: Ryan Lee

The short bio on the tag for this piece read: Ryan Lee is a guy trying to make it in comics. Don’t worry, brother. Keeps this up and you’ll do just fine.

Check out the rest of the images from the show after the jump…

M.O.D.O.K. :: Amber Guffey

Eggman :: Bryan Durren

untitled :: Ray Goode

M.O.D.O.K. vs Warhol :: Jesse Hughes

MODOK HEARTS SPARKS :: Nate Higley

7-Eleven :: Bernie Juozapaitis

M.O.D.O.K. :: Dave Acosta

B.O.D.O.K. (Bunny Organism Designed Only for Killing) :: Heather Hansma

Here is the scan of my piece since I was having a hard time photographing it in the gallery. I decided to not keep messing with it since I knew I had this scan at home I could just throw up if need be.

So here is the synopsis: the MODOK-themed show was a ton of fun to be a part of and it had a kickass turn out of art from a bunch of local artists. It will be up at Green Brain Comics through the beginning of December. I highly recommend you go and see this art in person, as well as patron one of our finest local businesses in the Detroit area.
